This 1958 Great Britain Sovereign is a highly desirable proof issue from the early reign of Queen Elizabeth II, struck during a period when sovereign production was extremely limited. Proof sovereigns of this era were not issued for circulation and were produced in small numbers specifically for collectors, making them significantly scarcer than their bullion counterparts.
The obverse features the youthful Mary Gillick portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, one of the most admired effigies of the monarch, while the reverse displays Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic St George and the Dragon, a design synonymous with the sovereign series for over two centuries.
Certified by PCGS as PR65 Deep Cameo, this coin displays strong mirrored fields and well-defined frosted devices, offering excellent visual contrast and eye appeal. Referenced as WR-450, it is a recognised and collected proof variety within the sovereign series and an excellent example of mid-20th-century British proof gold.
