Description

This 1887 Great Britain Crown commemorates Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of her reign. The obverse features the distinctive Jubilee Head portrait, designed by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm, showing Victoria facing left wearing a small crown, veil and jewellery. The surrounding Latin legend identifies her as Queen of the Britons and Defender of the Faith.

The reverse showcases Benedetto Pistrucci’s celebrated St George and the Dragon design, with St George mounted on horseback and striking the dragon beneath him. The date appears below the design, accompanied by Pistrucci’s initials, “B.P.” The coin’s reeded edge and detailed milled surfaces add to its classic Victorian appearance.

Struck in sterling silver, this historic five-shilling Crown is graded MS62 by NGC, indicating a Mint State example with no circulation wear, although light marks may be present.
