1887 Great Britain Victoria Double Florin 4S Arabic 1 In Date MS64

Description

This 1887 Great Britain Double Florin, or Four Shillings, features Queen Victoria’s Jubilee Head portrait, facing left and wearing a small crown, veil and jewellery. The reverse displays four crowned shields representing the United Kingdom, arranged around the Star of the Garter, with sceptres between them.

A particularly interesting feature is the Arabic 1 in date variety, which distinguishes it from the earlier Roman I version. Introduced in Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee year, the Double Florin was a short-lived denomination struck from 1887 to 1890.

This example is graded MS64 by NGC, indicating a well-preserved Mint State coin with attractive original lustre and only minor surface marks. A desirable addition to any collection of Victorian silver coinage.
