This 1866 Great Britain Half Sovereign features the Young Head portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, designed by William Wyon, with the surrounding legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA. The date appears below the bust, and the portrait reflects the refined neoclassical style used throughout the early Victorian period.

Struck in 22-carat gold, the half sovereign was widely used in everyday commerce and throughout the British Empire, valued for its trusted weight and purity. The reverse (not shown) displays Benedetto Pistrucci’s celebrated depiction of St George slaying the dragon, one of the most enduring designs in British numismatics.

Graded AU55 by PCGS, this example retains strong detail with only light wear on the highest points. Much of the original mint lustre remains, complementing its warm golden tone and attractive surfaces.
