A scarce and historically significant 1660 Commonwealth of England silver shilling, dating from the final year of the Commonwealth before the Restoration of the monarchy. The obverse features a large English shield surrounded by a beaded border, with the surrounding legend identifying the Commonwealth. The reverse depicts the conjoined English and Irish shields, accompanied by the denomination XII and the date 1660, with the traditional GOD WITH VS legend.
Struck as a hammered coin, this example displays pleasing natural toning, visible lettering and good overall detail for the issue. Certified XF45 by NGC, it is an attractive example of this important period in English numismatic history.
